Magnetic Substorm - most frequent type of geomagnetic activity
- A substorm is the ordered sequence of events that occurs in the magnetosphere and ionosphere when the IMF turns southward and increased energy flows from the solar wind into the magnetosphere.
- When the coupling of the solar wind to the magnetosphere is strong and prolonged - geomagnetic activity becomes intense and complicated heralding a storm.
