Multi-site scintillation measurements of interplanetary CMEs

Andy Breen

Abstract

Radio scintillation observations from two or more sites provide accurate measurements of solar wind velocity. Regions of rotated magnetic field produce a distinctive signature in the cross-correlation function of scintillationsat the two sites. This makes it possible to recognise the passage of such regions. In this paper we discuss EISCAT IPS observations of regins of rotated field from 1994 to 1999, and attempt to associate them with eruptive coronal events seen by SOHO instruments. These inter-planetary observations can provide valuable information on the propagation and velocity profile of mass ejections
