The Sun controls the flow of mass, momentum, and energy throughout geospace. It drives all geomagnetic disturbances and space weather.
By monitoring and forecasting variable solar activity, the Air Force will have the necessary input for the solar-terrestrial models that are needed to manage DoD operations in the space environment.
ï Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) & solar flares ï Solar cycle variability
ï Structure and dynamics of the solar corona ï Magnetohydrodynamic modeling
ï Structure and dynamics of the solar interior ï Solar particle fluxes & cosmic rays
ï Magnetic helicity and reconnection ï Precursors of solar activity
