Transition to re-engineered PWG data processing system

Version: 13 Aug 2002

1. Access to NRT

Instrument team obligations:

- Teams will need to change the port number their receiving software uses to access the NRT data stream

- Teams will need to receive NRT data from the new system during the testing phase, verify their data stream, work any issues with the re-engineering team.

- Note: The Fall Polar flip/eclipse operation period straddles the schedule below. Please plan your teamıs test and changeover to eliminate/minimize impact to your instrument operations.

- The team PI will need to submit a formal verification, or buy off, email to their project scientist that the new NRT system will serve their needs. Please copy that email to barbara.giles@gsfc.nasa.gov for coordination purposes. All teams must respond regardless of their level of participation with the NRT system.

Schedule:

August 12:  2-3 selected teams perform initial testing. Remaining teams receive test information.

August 26: All teams begin parallel testing. The CDHF system remains available.

September 16: Verifications must be received.

September 17: All teams should have changed over to new system for routine operations

October 1:  The ISTP CDHF NRT server is closed.

2. ftp access to LZ, QL, OA, and all other data products

Instrument team obligations:

- Teams will need to change their automated data access procedures. A sample script for automating file downloads is available at http://tide.gsfc.nasa.gov/studies/POLAR/copypwg.pl

- The ftp address is pwgdata.gsfc.nasa.gov with anonymous login.

- Teams will need to verify that all data products required by their teams are available, in the format expected, and that the quality of processed data products remains at acceptable levels.

- Please note that this is an open ftp site and all persons, regardless of team participation, will have access to all data products.

- The team PI will need to submit a formal, or buy off, email to the project that the new data distribution system will serve their needs. Please copy that email to barbara.giles@gsfc.nasa.gov for coordination purposes. All teams must respond regardless of their level of participation in the data distribution system.

Schedule:

July 22:  ftp site is open, although not fully populated.  Teams may start browsing.

August 19: ftp site is well populated and properly updating for most file types, but not KP

August 20: 2-3 selected teams begin automated transfers of data and share their scripts

September 3: ftp site is properly updating for all files types, including KP

September 3: All teams begin parallel testing. The CDHF system remains available.

September 16: Verifications must be received.

September 17: All teams should have changed over to new system for routine operations

October 1:  The ISTP CDHF data service is closed.

3. KP data processing

Instrument team obligations:

- Teams will need to verify that the new KP products produced are correct and work any issues with the re-engineering team

- The team PI will need to submit a formal verification, or buy off, email to their project scientist that the new KP production system is producing acceptable KP data for distribution by the CDAWeb. Please copy that email to barbara.giles@gsfc.nasa.gov for coordination purposes. All teams must respond regardless of their level of participation in the KP processing system.

Schedule:

September 3: newly produced KP files are available on ftp site for download

October 1: Verifications must be received.

October 1: The ISTP CDHF KP production is closed.

4. CD/DVD production and flow

Instrument team obligations:

- Teams will need to verify that the new CD/DVD products produced contain the necessary data products and are of sufficient quality.  Work any issues with the re-engineering team.

- The team PI will need to submit a formal verification, or buy off, email to their project scientist that the new CD/DVD production system is producing products that will serve their needs. Please copy that email to barbara.giles@gsfc.nasa.gov for coordination purposes. All teams must respond regardless of their level of participation in the CD/DVD production system.

Schedule:

August 23: Sample CD/DVD product is shipped

September 3: Responsibility for distribution of data by CD/DVD begins

September 16: Last distribution of CD products by ISTP CDHF

September 30: Verifications must be received.

October 1: The ISTP CDHF CD production process is closed.
