Special Operations Periods for Global Geospace Science (GGS)
(acronym "GSOP" for GGS Special Operations Period)
A GGS Special Operations Period (GSOP) is a time interval when the deployment
of the GGS spacecraft offers a unique opportunity
for the pursuit of coordinated correlative studies using GGS/ISTP resources and
collaborating spacecraft and ground-based facilities.
- An example of a GSOP is a time period when POLAR is performing auroral imaging, GEOTAIL
is in the tail, WIND is in the solar wind, and the Super Darn radar array covers the nightside.
The generation of GSOPs is the responsibility of the GGS spacecraft project
scientists and members of the Spacecraft
Planning and Operations Facility (ISTP/SPOF). GSOPs may also be proposed by any member of the space science community.
A GSOP will be generated via the GSOP Form
, which will contain a description of the opportunity. Each GSOP will be
listed in the GSOP catalog, from which the completed forms can be accessed.
The GSOPs time intervals will be listed by the GGS Science Operations
Coordinator and posted in the GGS Master Operations
