GSOP 4: 'WIND Satellite Inside the Earth's Magnetosphere'
Description of the proposed GSOP; spacecraft and ground facility configurations
The Wind spacecraft periodically moves into the magnetosphere and crosses the tail. During these intervals,
both GGS satellites are located close to the Earth. This configuration provides an extra in-situ measurement
of the near-Earth region and should be a prime operations period. Additional ISTP spacecraft positioned in
the tail, lobes and solar wind with ground-based radar and magnetometers in the midnight region would be ideal.
Special POLAR data instrument operations REQUIREMENTS
UV and Visible imaging, SEPS
Special POLAR despun platform OPERATIONS
Platform pointing towards the magnetospheric region where Wind is located for as long as possible.
